More About Mary's Book

Mary V. Goddard will be at the Coquitlam campus (1460 Lansdowne Avenue) tomorrow morning (February 12, 2006) and at the Port Coquitlam campus (1477 Lougheed Highway) next Sunday (February 19, 2006) signing her newest book.

If you can't attend the book signings, you can still order her books. Just call the church (604-942-1110) for information on how to obtain a copy.

Dear Pastor Buzza:

I hoped to be able to write you sooner, and as such, this comment does not have to do with the article in which it is posted.

Rather I wish to address an article you wrote in the Tri-City News on December 25. A good article for sure, but I have an issue with the final paragraph which reads: "But we are still Canadian, our roots and fruit are still Christian and we do have something wonderful to celebrate. God really did enter humanity, two thousand years ago in a little baby named Jesus, born in a manger in Bethlehem. That’s worth celebrating with as much fanfare as we conservative Canadians can muster."

As a member of Northside Foursquare, I feel uncomfortable and excluded by your use of the word "conservative Canadians", as if to imply that if I'm not conservative I do not belong. Well, I'm not conservative. When it comes to matters of economy and care for those less priveleged and care for the sick and the elderley and the poor, the conservative approach is not what I believe in. Conservatives believe in lower taxes, less regulation, less government and a more individualistic approach. I do not. I believe as good Christians we must house the homeless, feed the poor, and lift up the least of us and you don't accomplish this through tax cuts for the wealthiest Canadians and largest Coporations. There are many passages from the Bible which speak to the need to care for those I have mentioned.

And if your brother becomes poor, and cannot maintain himself with you, you shall maintain him; as a stranger and a sojourner he shall live with you. Take no interest from him or increase, but fear your God; that your brother may live beside you. You shall not lend him your money at interest, nor give him your food for profit. I am the Lord your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan, and to be your God. (Leviticus 25:35-38)

"He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts, he has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted those of low degree; he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent empty away". (Luke 1:51-53)

There are many, many more examples. To me that just doesn't speak to conservative beliefs and I hope in future you can avoid the term.

I think that he meant 'conservative' as in we don't normally "celebrate with much fanfare" (the last line of his article), not 'conservative' as in politically Conservative.

my 2 cents..
